Looking for guidance with your photography project?
Or are you mainly looking for technical support?
In addition to teaching at NAVB in Amsterdam, I also offer individual coaching for photographers. Through my own photo and film projects I have experienced how valuable professional guidance can be. An objective and critical view of your work can help you move forward. Having someone look over your shoulder often brings new insights.
In my own projects I have also worked with mentors and advisors. When working on personal projects, all initiative ultimately has to come from yourself. On the one hand I embrace that independence, but at the same time it can be a challenging and sometimes solitary process in which you inevitably encounter your own doubts and questions.

How do you even begin a project? What does the process involve? How do you write a project proposal or find funding? How can you present your work to a wider audience? Perhaps you have already been working on a project for some time but feel stuck. Or maybe you simply have technical questions.
Over the years I have gained experience with a wide range of projects, and I may be able to support you in your own working process. This can take the form of a single session — for example a half-day or full-day consultation — but it is also possible to work together over a longer period, or within a small group of photographers.
Through the Dutch professional development grant Werktuig PPO, it is possible to receive reimbursement for approximately one-third of the costs.

“In our anniversary year 2026 we will organise an exhibition with portraits of residents of Haarlem aged 0–100. We are currently working hard on it: the first twenty portraits have been made, but we still need eighty more and could use some professional guidance. Jaap van den Beukel — known for projects such as Mijn Noord — is exactly that professional. He gave a workshop for more than twenty members of our photography group. How do you approach a model? How do you choose a setting, composition and lighting? After listening to his inspiring introduction, we started working in small groups while Jaap provided advice and feedback. It was a very enjoyable and educational day.”
